Is your child or teen struggling with feeling anxious or depressed, experiencing anger outbursts or other behavioral difficulties at home or school? As a parent, are you struggling with knowing how to help your child? Therapy is a great place to start and I can help.
My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, supportive, therapeutic environment, in which clients can learn, grow and become equipped with the coping skills needed to handle life’s difficulties and make better choices.
As we know, life can be very unpredictable, challenging and anxiety-provoking, especially for children. My passion involves working with children to empower them to have a voice and an outlet to express their thoughts and feelings, and to learn how to change negative thought patterns. I feel it is equally important to involve parents in the therapy sessions as part of the healing process. I work with the child’s family to offer support and provide guidance and education to help them be their child’s best advocate.
I look forward to working with you and having the opportunity to help enhance your child’s overall emotional well-being and be able to function and carry out daily responsibilities in a healthy manner.
I obtained my bachelor's degree in psychology in 1992 and master's degree in social work in 1999, both from the University of Southern Mississippi.
I provide therapy services for children, adolescents and families using evidenced-based therapies, with my primary focus on children and adolescents with emotional and behavioral difficulties. I have 31 years of experience working in the mental health field, with the past 25 of those practicing as a Clinical Social Worker.
My professional work history includes: providing school and home-based therapy, conducting groups with children at a domestic violence shelter, working with children, adolescents and adults in an inpatient and outpatient setting, working on an after hours on-call assessment team and volunteering with grief camps for children.
Providing therapy services for children (ages 8-12) and female adolescents (ages 13-18). Currently, also offering Telehealth sessions. Please call for a FREE phone consultation with Joan prior to scheduling an appointment. If you or your child are experiencing an emergency, please call 911
